Scam Alert. Thieves Rob You Blind Without Asking For Card Number
January 11, 2006
There’s a new credit card scam and this time the thieves are fooling even the smartest of consumers because they don’t ask for you credit card number. Your phone rings and someone represents themselves as a security advisor working for your credit card company. They give you badge numbers and other official sounding information to make the call sound legit.
The thieves ask about any large purchases and then determines that someone is doing fraud on your credit cards. They ask you to confirm that you are the card holder by giving them the 3 digit cvv on the back of your card. That’s all that is needed for them to clean out your account.
You see the thieves already have your credit card number and usually to make purchases online, you need to enter that 3 digit security number to make that purchase. Experts say that you should never give out your information, especially if it’s from an unsolicited phone call.
