Employee of the IRS Arrested
April 6, 2006
Authorities arrested John Sebastian King on Thursday after charging him with 12 counts of fraud. Police accuse him of steal social security and credit card numbers in which he planned to use for a shopping spree.
He bought luggage, furniture and a number of other items with the stolen private information but his employer won’t say if he used his job to get the information that was stolen.
If he is convicted, which is highly likely, he stands to get up to 90 years in prison and for that extra kick in the crotch he would also have to pay over 3 million in fines. Wonder what he would say if asked, “Was it worth it?”.
It’s A Credit Card, What’s There To Know?
April 5, 2006
Plenty apparently. A national survery shows that more than 60% of consumers don’t know basic facts or details about their credit cards such as annual percentage rate or even their credit limit.
The problem is believed to be the credit card offers themselves. Millions of us get tons of junk mail which can include more than two offers a week from credit card companies telling us we’ve been pre-approved for their cards.
However it seems that many people either don’t read these offers completely if at all, or they don’t understand them. It doesn’t help matters that many of the important need to know information is in fine print that many consumers don’t bother to look at.
Bottom line: Read the offer, all of it and call the company if you have questions. But if you already have a handful of credit cards it might be best to toss this offer with the rest of the junk mail.
